Dr. Potenciano “Yong” Larrazabal, III
The original idea of constructing a hospital which could be considered as Modern Medical Center in this part of the Philippines and which would be controlled by the physicians themselves in order to give the utmost in convenience and well-being to the patients had been the brainchild of Dr. Jose Borromeo.
He was instrumental in grouping together 30 doctors who organized themselves into the hospital project in the latter part of 1962. The coming in of Dr. Potenciano V. Larrazabal, Jr. in July 1969 on behalf of the Larrazabal family in Ormoc, Leyte, was a major turning point in the evolution of the corporation. The Larrazabal family brought in with them their vast financial capabilities as well as business acumen. The dream of having a medical center in Cebu was materialized on August 20, 1972 with formal inauguration of Cebu Doctors University Hospital.
