Bigger MactanDoc for better healthcare in Mactan Island.

“Patients no longer need to cross the bridge, just to get better healthcare.”

That has been the commitment of CebuDoc Group’s President and Chairman of the Board, Dr. Potenciano “Yong” S.D. Larrazabal, III last March 10, 2018, during the groundbreaking ceremony of MactanDoc Medical Arts Building. And 3 years later, MactanDoc now has become bigger and better that now caters to more patients in Mactan Island.

Fulfilling its promise to the residents of the historic island, MactanDoc has now opened its New Medical Arts Building in the middle of the pandemic, housing 49 new doctor's clinics of different specializations and a satellite outpatient laboratory for patients’ convenience.

“I am very glad that our doctors now have better and bigger clinics. Before, they had to endure a small space while some of their patients had to wait under the sun. Now, we have spacious waiting areas inside the new building and they no longer need to walk far to have their labs because we also have set up a satellite outpatient laboratory inside to accommodate their primary lab needs,” Dr. Larrazabal said.

Scaling up continues

Just recently, MactanDoc also expanded its Dialysis Center that can now accommodate 90 patients a day with 30 Hemodialysis Machines from its original 6 machines that can only accommodate 18-20 patients a day.

“We have received so many inquiries and request to have their Dialysis in our hospital. So when we had the opportunity, we strategized and immediately worked out everything to scale up from 6 machines to 30 machines. When we were granted the license to operate by the DOH, we did not waste our time and immediately accommodated patients who needed our care,” Dr. Larrazabal added.

MactanDoc also takes pride in its top-quality patient care and state-of-the-art facility as its Hemodialysis Machines are now equipped with the 41 minutes-auto hot disinfection which will cut waiting time for patients after patients. On top of that, the new center also provides a more comfortable healing environment for the patients as the new center is now more spacious and conducive.

“As nurses, we are very happy that we now have a more conducive space for treatment. And much happier because we see our patients happy with the improvements that we made in our facility. Before they had to endure a long waitlist because of our limited capacity, now we can accommodate them. And to see them feel better, it makes us feel better also,” said the Head of the MactanDoc’s Dialysis Center, Nurse Jonas Ponce.

The Dialysis Center operates six days a week from Monday to Saturday with three shifts (6 AM to 6 PM) to accommodate the number of patients coming to the dialysis center and to provide more suitable time options for patients.

Lifelong Partner

Another improvement made in MactanDoc is the new and bigger Center for Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine. Compared to its former space, it is now more spacious and can be accessed without passing through the halls of the hospital.

“This is also part of our commitment to our patients who come to us for outpatient services and doesn’t want to get inside the hospital especially because of the threat of COVID19. But more than that, it’s aligned with our vision to improve our service centers in parallel to the quality of care we render,” said Dr. Larrazabal.

With its 11 year history, MactanDoc’s Rehabilitation Unit is now a full-blown Center of Excellence. It has been serving Mactan Island for a while now and over the years it has also grown its array of services. It now offers and focuses on a Rehabilitation Team Approach, which includes Physiatry, Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), Speech-Language Pathology (SLP), and Orthotics-Prosthetics.

“For 11 years, we have been the home of compassionate and highly skilled rehabilitation medicine physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists with a proven track record. And our team is committed to providing meticulous care to achieve safe, effective, and exceptional results with our services,” said Ms. Janice Sangalang, MactanDoc’s Center for Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine Chief Physical Therapist.

The facility also boasts its cardiovascular equipment for strength training exercises and a variety of modalities such as electrotherapy, ultrasound therapy, and other therapy accessories to help with the overall strengthening, flexibility, balance, and mobility function of patients.

“Patients who have been discharged from the hospital, children with special needs, patients living with a chronic illness, or aging individuals living alone often find themselves struggling to get back on track. The strategy behind developing this Center is to provide the best avenue to help these individuals and be their partners in their journey to full recovery,” said Dr. Carmelo L. Barcenas, Chairman of MactanDoc, CPRM.

Situated beside the Medical Arts Building, MactanDoc’s newest facility is brightly lit and open, providing an ideal environment for therapists to work one-on-one with individual patients for personalized sessions. It is open from Mondays to Saturdays from 8 AM to 7 PM.
